Specsavers Optical Group Ltd is a multinational optical retail chain operating in 12 markets, with a mission to help people see and hear better, and employing around 40,000 staff globally.
BJSS and Specsavers have been working together since 2017. Specsavers strongly supports career development and opportunities for talented individuals and, in agreement with BJSS, has deployed graduates of the Princess Training Award-winning BJSS Academy to various Specsavers projects. Fully supported with collaborative oversight from an experienced BJSS Tech Lead, BJSS Junior Engineers are involved in a number of programmes of work across both the digital and in-store estates, including:
- Redesigning the online Find and Book services to allow Specsavers to rapidly implement improvements to the customer journey of searching for and booking appointments at local stores.
- Replacing Specsavers’ legacy in-store Socrates application for in-store clinical and retail management with an evolved, scalable, web-based version.
Coming from different backgrounds, the Academy Engineers were able to bring diverse perspectives and fresh specialisms to these projects. And, because the Specsavers’ technical landscape has a high correlation with those used in the Academy training modules, these Junior Engineers already had expertise in, and familiarity with, Specsavers’ environment.
“I am always supportive of helping develop top talent in the early years of their careers. BJSS is an important strategic partners of ours, and we've engaged them to take on Academy talent into our digital portfolio, initially free of charge to us, allowing us to benefit from additional capacity whilst they learn, and then, in due course, to become chargeable at a graduate rate. It's a great win-win for both of us."
Glen Leakey, Global Digital Transformation Director at Specsavers
